Halloween checklist and hidden treasure

Pumpkin muffins, baked. Jack-o-Lantern carved. (Toddler appeased by muffins, resigned to not eating Jack. Probably biding her time.) Halloween candy, bought. Valentine and Lisa, getting ready for the big night. Rom and Meghan, happy to have advance reviews.

Found a hidden treasure! We’ve been driving to nearby trails like the area before Rugged Ridge or around Bogachiel. Yesterday a ranger of 50 years experience tipped the husband off to a gem of a local trail and we hit it last night after dinner.

Fun! Log bridges, switchbacks, steep climbs, all sorts of challenge on a beautifully maintained trail with a trailhead five minutes away. Sweeet! There are several ways to hike, with loops, so it can provide a lot of variety in one spot. We’ll be spending lots of time there. Because sometimes you just want an hour’s hike without driving to get there.

Book shopper alert

Print books are on sale at Samhain’s My Bookstore and More. You have to click on the book to see the discounted price, but they’re all marked down for the sale. An excellent time to get a copy of The Gripping Beast. šŸ˜‰

Otherwise, it’s writing and pumpkin carving and maybe making some pumpkin cookies or muffins around here. The toddler is way more excited about eating the pumpkin than carving it.

Us: “Next we finish scraping it out, then trace on the pattern, then carve it.”

Toddler: “And then we eat it!”

Spamalot

I always get spammed, but just recently it’s shot up to ridiculous numbers. To the point that I’m actually worried I’m going to exceed my email limit and get my mailbox shut down…from the sheer amount of incoming spam. The husband found out why spam has suddenly increased: a new Trojan virus.

The Spamthru Trojan is actually setting itself up on PCs and turning them into spam machines, sending out spam galore through the infected PC. Bastards.

Night Music ā€œA Wicked Pleasureā€

Another wonderful advance review for Night Music from Wantz Upon A Time. Four Books!

“A smooth and well-written paranormal romance makes NIGHT MUSIC a welcome addition to the ā€œBeginnings Anthologyā€ series.Ā  Meghan is a heroine with heart, grit and spirit.Ā  Although a modern vampire, Rom is still all alpha male.Ā  Good characterization and clever pacing makes NIGHT MUSIC a wicked pleasure to enjoy reading.”Ā  –Ā  Lisa Guest

It takes some of the anxiety out of a new release when there are advance reviews and they’re good.Ā  šŸ™‚

Working on finding my playlist music for Capture Me. That’s always an interesting part of the process. The playlist for Night Rhythm is Kiss From A Rose by Seal and Making Believe by Social Distortion.

Reviews and Sol Duc

Joyfully Reviewed posted two terrific reviews, Wolf In Shining Armor and the first review of Night Music! Quotes from reviewer Georgia:

“Wolf in Shining Armor showcases a great short story, one with interesting characters, a fast pace, a little tension and a lot of sexual heat. Rorik is a man that takes charge, accepting and even embracing his curse to make the most of it…As for Ailiss, she is conflicted. She knows Rorik is her mate but is resentful of the way in which he comes to her, but she canā€™t resist her own needs and must reconcile her emotions with her instincts before they can truly be happy together. Their journey is quick, but very well told.

“Although Night Music is part of The Sirens series, this short story can stand on its own. The characters are surprisingly well developed for the length of the story…This fast paced story is a quick and easy read that also satisfies. The steaming hot sex is just right. Ms. Teglia also very nicely sets up the story for the next book. I, for one, can not wait to read Valentine and Lisaā€™s story.”

Valentine and Lisa’s story, of course, is my Halloween freebie, Night Rhythm, available right here.

Sol Duc; wow. We decided to start from the hot springs instead of parking further up the road to hike to the falls, taking the Lover’s Lane trail. We are calling it “Lovers Lame” because your blisters will have blisters about 2 hours into the trek. Not an easy trail. Lots of wet and slippery log bridges, streams to ford, rocky footing, and I understand during the spring runoff a lot of the trail is under water. I can well believe this. Late summer to fall is probably the safer time of year.

The curious thing about this trail? I remember reading that somewhere there’s a place where water appears to flow uphill due to some sort of powerful illusion. Likewise, this trail somehow manages to take a 6 mile loop that goes uphill the whole way. We kept saying in the beginning, “This will be downhill coming back!” Hahahaha.

After 4 miles of hard going and 3 gorgeous falls and lots and lots of photographs, we came back via the highway to the hot springs. Next time we’ll come with suits and soak our aching muscles! Sol Duc Hot Springs is a great place to either camp or rent a cabin and take the many, many trails that lead off. Mink Lake, Hidden Lake, Seven Lake Basin just to name a few.
