Welcome guest blogger Lynn Raye Harris, HP author!
The title of this blog is Charlene's fault. She was discussing Harlequin Presents novels on Twitter, and I was eavesdropping because, well, I love Presents too. During the discussion, Charlene and another writer mentioned a book where the hero was talking about his feelings, which they didn't think was very alpha of him, and Charlene uttered that ‘cavemen in suits' comment. Something about how she liked her cavemen to wear suits. Ha, I loved it!
I knew exactly what she was talking about, and it isn't the Geico cavemen getting dressed up. ;)
So how does that comment apply to Presents? Well, the Harlequin Presents alpha male is the biggest, baddest, most arrogant and ruthless man on earth. And many readers love him that way. (The fact the line is the top selling series around the world kind of proves it, I think.)
Why, dear God, do we love a caveman in a suit? I think it's the taming. Because that man, no matter how he blusters across the pages-expecting everyone to bow to his demands and do things his way-will be tamed by the heroine at the end. He will still be ruthless, arrogant, and alpha - but not with her. For a man with that much power and control to find out he has no power or control when it comes to this one woman is a recipe for yumminess in my not so unbiased opinion.
I love the raw, untamed, arrogant alpha in all his glory. Like many romance readers, I came to these stories early. As an impressionable pre-teen, I got my first taste of the glamour, passion, and seduction of Harlequin Presents stories. And I was hooked.
All these years later, I still love these books. That I get to write my own stories and see them published in the line is icing on the cake. I am proud to be a Harlequin Presents author, and proud to write about ‘cavemen in suits'. My heroes are honorable and have a deep core of integrity, but yes, they are ruthless. They want their way, and they intend on getting it!
My first book, Spanish Magnate, Red-Hot Revenge, is out now. Alejandro de Ramirez is all alpha, and he wants revenge. Rebecca Layton is the heroine who conquers him. The journey is paved with obstacles and the passion is hot! For a chance to win a signed copy of my book, leave a comment. Tell me what you like (or don't) about the alpha male!

Bio:
Lynn Raye Harris read her first Harlequin Mills & Boon romance when her grandmother carted home a box from a yard sale. She didn't know she wanted to be a writer then, but she definitely knew she wanted to marry a sheikh or a prince and live the glamorous life she read about in the pages.
These days Lynn lives in Alabama with her handsome husband and two crazy cats. When she's not writing, she loves to read, shop for antiques, cook gourmet meals and try new wines. She is also an avowed shoeaholic and thinks there's nothing better than a new pair of high heels.
Lynn was a finalist in the 2008 Romance Writers of America's Golden Heart® contest, and she is the winner of the Harlequin Presents Instant Seduction contest. Lynn's second book, Cavelli's Lost Heir, comes out in January.

What I like, nay love, about
What I like, nay love, about the alpha male is that when gives his love to his woman, you know for sure they'll live happily ever after after the last page is turned. His integrity means he'll stand by his promises forever, no question. Meaning, the biggest, most satisfied 'Ahhhhh!' from me after closing each book! What I don't like about the alpha is his inscrutability to uninitiated readers, who can be too quick to judge him as a 'caveman in a suit', as it were!
I love the way an alpha hero
I love the way an alpha hero starts out chilly, in some cases downright freezing, and then slowly watching him melt from the inside on out thanks to the heroine. My only problem with alphas is when its not clear why he's so chilly and if his transformation happens suddenly to bring on the happily ever after, rather than progressing gradually throughout the story.
Oooh, Leanne, I love that
Oooh, Leanne, I love that too! I love that you know this man will never ever disappoint once he's committed to the heroine. And yes, there are readers who simply don't get him! I wish everyone knew the pleasures of a good alpha, but different strokes and all that! Thanks for commenting. :)
Hi, Summer! I know what you
Hi, Summer! I know what you mean about watching that alpha unfreeze. It's great, isn't it? I don't mind him having a lightbulb moment, but I do like to know why he's so cold and ruthless along the way.
Thanks for commenting!
I love it when the heroine
I love it when the heroine tames her hero. I love it when he is struggling to admit he has feelings, admit he truly does love her. But that is not all I love about him. He has strength, is powerful and passionate.
I should be writing but bought another two presents today. I've read about thirty in three weeks. lol lol... It's an
addition.:)
