I’ve been discussing the new site with the husband. Aha, you say. New site? What new site? Well, more a new look and better overall organization. The books all need their own individual pages, I want to give more space to the book covers on the blog page. All book information needs to be easier to find because my own cousin who reads my blog and visits my site every day does not know which of my titles are currently in print. That’s bad. In general I want a cleaner, brighter, better organized look.
And new colors. I like the pacific northwest theme I have, but I’ve come to realize that while a photograph from the Olympic Peninsula in the header is pretty and serene, it really doesn’t say anything about me or my books. Except maybe, “I’m growing moss in the rain forest.” And after what Jennifer Crusie has to say about moss, I’m having serious second thoughts about green as a color scheme for an erotic romance author. I’m thinking pink.
One of the big things under discussion is the limitations of the framework the main site is running on. WordPress is actually powerful and flexible enough to put the whole site on, not just the blog page. That’s a possibility. Right now it’s just a beast to update, so minor corrections that need to be made get put off because it’s too difficult to go in and change them. I want to make that easier.
So. New site in the works behind the scenes. Brighter, cleaner, better organized, easier to update. And not mossy.
Charli,
I understand what you mean about the website theme reflecting your books. What I like about your current motif is that is reminds me of a Celtic forest with Loreena McKinnit singing Duncan McLeod’s theme song. I never thought about it but the catch is you don’t write about Immortals and that there can be only one!
Good luck on your design. I guess I’ll reluctantly say good bye to Duncan and the forest.
Janis
Janis, don’t you love Loreena McKinnit? *swoon* And Duncan McLeod. Don’t need more than one! 😆
I like the forest look, too, but most of my books are pretty funny and this doesn’t say funny. It’s serene, which I love. But it does need to better reflect the general tone of my books. 🙄
Sigh, Dh is still waiting for me to tell him what I want. I may work on that on the flights. Good luck!
He’s actually got the template mostly built now. I wanted something that was kind of a visual representation of my voice, and I think it works! 😆
A long flight is a good time to think about that kind of thing. I thought about it in between bouts of writing, sort of a mental break.
I like your green, Charli. It is very Celtic, very much hinting at some secret hidden behind the facade. 😀
But then, I always like websites as they are–then when they’re changed, I like the new ones. Go figure.
Raine, I thought the garden gate looked like a gateway to a secret world. 🙂 That’s what it’s supposed to represent, anyway. I’ll be interested to see what people think of the new look.
I think this is a great site, but I hear you on wanting it to reflect your writing more. Can’t wait to see the next one.
Thanks, Ursula! I think the new look is pretty spiffy. Coming soon!
Any kind of website overhaul is a huge job. But, it’s kinda like your home…every now and then you need a change. I can’t wait to see what you come up with.
Hee. I’m actually viewing this in the new template right now. It’s soooo pretty! And fun!
