Wild Wild West: your questions answered

Friday, August 24th, 2007

I’ve been answering questions via individual email, but I figured I could answer them here, too, and then maybe link this blog entry to the book’s page for anybody else with questions. Or for those with questions who don’t want to send me an email.

1. Can I have a signed bookplate?

Yes. Send me your snail mail addy and a signed bookplate for Wild Wild West can be yours.
2. Will there be any more cowboy stories?
Probably. I love men in chaps.
3. Will there be any more stories connected to the first three St. Martin’s books?
At this time, Wild Wild West, Satisfaction Guaranteed and Wicked Hot are all stand-alone. However, there’s always room for a spinoff. Wild Wild West could easily have another story in the same setting, although the same characters, if they returned, would be minor characters. Satisfaction Guaranteed has a good setup for another novel or whatever featuring The Capture Agency. Wicked Hot can either work as standalone or the beginning of more books in a series, depending on how things go. So, the answer is “maybe”.

For all those of you who bought and enjoyed Wild Wild West, thank you, and an extra thanks to those who took the time to write and tell me how much you liked it.

Best group lip-synch ever

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

Turn on your speakers before you click, if you’re like me and work with sound turned off. Harvey Danger runs it up the flagpole! This video makes me miss working with a bunch of creative, energetic people. Yes, I know I “work” with lots of other writers, cover artists, etc., but it’s all telecommuting and not the same as hanging with ‘em daily. My daily companions now are two cats stoned on catnip, the programming husband, and the small people. Of course, it is possible the small people are building devices for world domination with Legos and Bloks. They’re pretty creative and energetic.

Interviewed and unveiling Miss Lonely Hearts!

Tuesday, August 21st, 2007

I’ve been interviewed by Nikki of The Romantic Realm. Nikki is an excellent interviewer, she has journalistic instincts.

And I can finally show the world the new, improved cover for Miss Lonely Hearts. It’s fabulous and amazing and I love it. Squee!

Poetry Monday

Monday, August 20th, 2007

It rains in Forks.
No, I mean it RAINS.
Sleet and rain, the beat of rain,
Twelve freaking feet of rain
Water rising in the river
(Mother Nature, she’s a giver)
You’ll find out dashing into stores
Or slogging along Pacific shores
It never rains in Forks.
It pours.

Yes, it rained all weekend, why do you ask? Ride the Monday Poetry train here.

A good re-read

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

I mentioned when I blogged Hunting the Demon that I’m reading a lot of nonfiction right now. I just re-read “Anybody Can Write” and remembered all over again why I kept it. There is so much good stuff in this short book, and it’s just as good for the beginning writer trying to find his/her voice as it is for the experienced writer. You might think that with 17 sales of novels and novellas, I wouldn’t be re-reading books on writing. You’d be wrong. No matter how much you write or how long you’re at it, I’m not sure you ever outgrow the need to be reminded of the basics and how to trust your voice.

I’ve copied this quote from the book onto my desktop:
“The fear of being wrong is the prime inhibitor of the creative process.” Roberta Jean Bryant

Yep. Fear and creativity do not play well together.

This book is apparently out of print, but there’s at least one copy to be found through Powell’s, a terrific source of used books. It’s well worth tracking down.
