Reading frenzy and the dark side

Just finished Natural Born Charmer, Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Yes, the paperback version is out! Now reading The Sharing Knife: Passage, Lois McMaster Bujold. It’s awesome to sink into a deep, rich fantasy. Next: Dark Needs at Night’s Edge, Kresley Cole. I love the Immortals After Dark series. I’m also reading some books recommended for parenting challenging kids and learning a lot.

And I read Animal Attraction two more times, which is something I do after every story is complete. I’m not sure if it’s due to the feeling that after all that work I should get to enjoy the results, or if it’s part of the letting go process to make room for a new book in my head, or if it’s just to appease my paranoia and make sure the book really doesn’t read like incoherent blathering. Maybe all of the above. Whatever, it sucks me in every time, and since I’ve read it I don’t know how many times in the process of writing, this seems like a good sign.

I’ve been kicking around proposals for the next book. I had one idea that’s too light, another that for whatever reason wasn’t a fit, and a third I’m playing with now. That one as I initially thought of it is too light. And Wicked Hot and Animal Attraction are, well, not pitch black, but a mix of dark and erotic with high stakes and strong paranormal worlds and lots of humor of a particular flavor. Snarky, dry, sometimes black humor. Not slapstick. Since I need to come up with something the-same-but-different, I need to figure out how to take this idea and build in those elements. Find the dark side.

And you know I caught up and read Satisfaction Guaranteed, which I also loved and it was so yummy…

Congrats on all your various accomplishments this week!

    I can’t wait to read Dark Needs. : D

Thanks for the congrats, and I’m so glad you had fun with Satisfaction! I’m tempted to send you Animal Attraction so you can appease my paranoia about whether it sounds like incoherent blathering. I think you’d like a heroine who knows her way around a Sig.

You’ll come up with something. I have faith. )

Well, I haven’t so far. : ( But I do have a heavy club and a lot of determination to hunt down that idea.
