I’m over the whole Sally vs. Wanda thing. For those who don’t know what the heck I’m talking about, it’s Shannon’s RTB column of a couple of days ago, permalinked in my blog entry of the same day. In a nutshell, we have Sally the mediocre but popular author outselling Wanda the superior author who spends little time promoting herself and most of her time writing good books. And this scenario upset me for a moment but I’m over it now. Because it just doesn’t matter.

Really. It has nothing to do with me or my books. I’m writing the stories I have to write, and while I understand the realities of today’s marketplace, that without self-promotion nobody will know about my fabulous books, I can only do what I can do in terms of time and money. And beyond that, fuggedaboudit. Write the next book.

Besides, I have a little prediction. Sally, whoever she is, will not stand the test of time. 10 years from now I doubt she’ll still be publishing at all, while Wanda, like the tortoise vs. the hare, will keep steadily moving ahead as word of mouth spreads and her reader base builds.

Vikings…wow, only three more days. Wow, wow, wow. I’m so excited, it’s a wonder I’ve gotten anything done this week, although I’ve been making good progress on MLH and ALS. Speaking of ALS, I’d intended to have it done by the end of this month, but the Vikings wore me out. I needed some down time after that project. It’s still possible that I’ll finish it off more or less on time, but if not, okay. It’s more important to me that the story doesn’t show signs of author fatigue. MLH is on track for delivery on time and in fact running ahead of schedule. But…the Vikings are coming! Woooot!
