Back on!

Back on the power grid, with all that entails, like running water and plumbing that works. God bless PUD. Laptop is fully recharged, I’m good to go. We may actually get a generator for future storm outages, because I hadn’t realized how quickly I’d lose laptop battery and how little I’d be able to work with everything down. I can’t handwrite, I’m too slow that way and I can’t work around my repetitive-motion issues with a pen like I can with a keyboard. Anyway, back on, back to work. Woot!

Off the grid

So, the big storm got us. No flood but power’s out, almost 24 hours now and no idea how much longer. I’d filled containers with water and pre-cooked food, we have the wood stove, but without the electric pump running the well we’re limping along. Phone lines are active, but can’t keep a computer online for long.

Anyway, for our friends and family out there wondering, we’re okay for now, we can head down to the hospital for a hot meal since the cafeteria’s serving, and we should have a status update at some point to tell us how much longer it’ll be. One good thing, it’s supposed to be a high of 40 today so we’re not too worried about losing food in the fridge or freezer.

Legendary Tails II in Spanish and etc.

The Spanish translation of Ellora’s Cavemen Legendary Tails II releases on Wednesday. Nifty! And Beginnings is in print the 21st. And somewhere in there I need to write a book and cook a turkey. As long as I don’t cook the book or book the turkey, it should turn out okay.

I am not up to speed on writing right now. Moving is part of that, but I think mainly  it’s my body collapsing in relief because I can breathe. Two months in a place with a mold/mildew issue did not do my body good. I need to get up to speed, though, and I’ve been employing my usual tricks to get my brain into take-off mode. Listening to music, re-reading what I’ve written. Not just my current project but everything I’ve written, all of it somehow helps push my brain into the write groove. And I find it enjoyable to pick up and read something I’ve written. Getting to enjoy it after the work of producing it is very satisfying.

The husband read Night Music and Night Rhythm last night, laughed at the funny parts, and liked how the two wove together but stood alone. Made me realize what a challenge Night Rhythm was from a technical standpoint. I stretched myself on that one and it’s always good to stretch. It was short so it had to tie in the series stuff without bogging down in backstory, had to have the past and the present without bogging down in backstory, had to work as a paranormal and a romance and a standlone story and a series installment…I learned a lot on that project, it was a very good exercise. And it entertained the husband who informed me that he likes knowing he’ll always have something to read with me around.   8)
