spring break, closets, Witch Mountain

Today’s the end of school and then spring break! Hooray! I have fabulous, exotic plans for spring break, which include cleaning out the office, cleaning out closets, and organizing the garage. The kids can help since they will be bored and in dire need of Something To Do.

And then I can open closets without fear. I really don’t need the adrenaline rush when I’m just trying to find somebody’s ball or a jacket. (Nobody has actually been injured by opening a closet, but this is no reason to keep shoving things in and shuttingthedoorreallyfast. Or tempting fate.)

Went to see Race to Witch Mountain. The Rock is fun, the explosions were fun, the kids and car chases were fun. Do not go to see this movie if you want deep. Also, do not go if you expect to see previous Witch Mountain storylines continued. And seriously don’t go if the sight of a “now I’m rich and famous because I published a book” ending will make you fall into the aisles screaming and foaming at the mouth, or cause you to have an aneurism. Just saying. Suspend your disbelief, look at the nice muscles that man is kind enough to share with the world, and go with it.

Breakthrough goals and writer’s challenge?

PBW posted a lovely picture of a work in progress for a quilting challenge. It made me wonder, is there any equivalent for a writer’s challenge?

This ties in to something I read from Jack Canfield, that you should set breakthrough goals. A goal that would mean a significant leap. For a writer, that might be hitting a bestseller list…although there things get tricky, because much of what’s involved in hitting a list is beyond one’s control. What isn’t, though, is writing a breakout novel.

I’ve been setting some new goals and pondering a writer’s challenge. Something to take a significant leap and showcase skills. Have you posed a writer’s challenge to yourself lately?

Happy St. Paddy’s day and Animal Attraction releases!

Happy St. Patrick’s day! Wear your green  with pride and enjoy the corned beef and cabbage.

Animal Attraction officially releases today! And it must already be shelved/shipping, because I’ve been hearing from readers. A big thank you to those who already bought and read, and yes, there is more. Red Queen picks up the story a few months later. I haven’t contracted it yet, so there’s no pub date or further info at this time, but I wanted to post that here since I’m getting questions about it.

I hope you enjoy meeting Chandra and the pack!

Watchmen

Went to see Watchmen this weekend. It’s a movie that produces a lot of food for thought. It has almost unbelievable visual effects; there were points when I leaned over to my husband to say, “How did they DO that?” The music fit the mood of the story, and the story was…relentless. This is a dark story. But it’s compelling storytelling. It’s not a comfortable movie, it has a lot of deep themes and questions wrapped up in a genre superhero package, and it’s worth watching and thinking about. Although it’s not for the squeamish and there were parts I didn’t watch because I knew I couldn’t take the visuals.
