1. From Boing-Boing, visual cues to who’s carrying a handgun. Need to describe the body language in your scene? Check out the handy reference guide.
2. From Genreality, Bob Mayer on lessons learned from Johnny Cash.
3. From Wil Wheaton, an article aimed at performing artists but you could change “perform” to “write” and change “audition” to “write queries/proposals” and it’s badly needed advice for writers.
I loved all of those, especially the scene from Walk the Line. I also recommend Johnny Cash’s autobiography. His career had so many ups and downs and moments where everybody (except June, of course) said he was washed-up and would never work again, it’s incredible inspiration for anybody trying to make as an artist.
Thanks, I will check out his autobiography. Ups and downs are going to happen in any career, so it’s good to keep perspective on both ends. *g*
Loved the Wil Wheaton piece. Very timely indeed. 🙂
Jordan, nails the heart of the matter, doesn’t it? Don’t let writing become your whole life, and don’t let publishing own all your writing. (Yeah, he couldn’t have posted that five years ago before I made those mistakes, but hey, better late than never!)
LOL, yes, the timing could’ve been better. *ggg* 😉
